We use the booklet called Communion of the Sick. Is it supposed to be the Pastoral Care of the Sick book?

Within the hospital setting there can be sudden and unexpected interruptions for medical procedures (blood draws, tests, physician visits). For this reason, within the hospital setting, it may be necessary to use the abbreviated version.

It is really best to provide Viaticum early on also because in most cases, when people are actively dying they are more often than not comatose and would be unable to receive Communion.

Corinna, could you please remind people to check with nursing staff whether a patient can consume food (NPO) before distributing Communion? A patient may be restricted regarding this if an upcoming surgery or procedure is scheduled.

Thanks for the question about being fully vaccinated and what to do. If you are fully vaccinated and have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 (within 6 feet of the person for 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period), you should seek testing 3 or more days after exposure, practice social distancing, and monitor for symptoms for 14 days after exposure. You do not need to quarantine or isolate unless you develop symptoms.
